We had an unexpected error on the camera and ended up having to reshoot much of our footage that day. What do you do when you're filming on-set and you lose footaget you just shot? You shoot them again. No other way around it!
We recently brought the jib out to our UCLA Engineering shoot to capture all the fantastic action shots that the school has to offer. Having a wider range of camera movement means more dynamic and interesting shots. Can't wait to show you how it turned out!
Though we are based in Los Angeles, we travel frequently up North to produce videos for our many Bay-area clients. We got to spend a whole week with our PAMF partners in December, visiting all the beautiful clinics and filming the wonderful staff. A snippet of our travelogue can be found below, and even more pictures can be found on our Facebook page. Like us on Facebook! (And in real life too.)
Last week we got an opportunity to shoot a patient at his bedside before he left the hospital. Rarely do we have an actual patient so close to their treatment, so our on-camera interview was very poignant. We learned a lot about EPIC's new patient software and how UCLA is working to improve the patient experience!
We joined the David Geffen School of Medicine's STAR Program last week for a night of food, fun, and learning! We produced the shoot on set at the Fowler museum, a gem in the heart of UCLA, and captured MDs, Ph.Ds, and MD/Ph.D's hanging out discussing medicine and research. They also premiered the first video we did for the program and the crowd went wild!
We had the absolute pleasure of profiling Abby's health journey from juvenile arthritis to being UCLA Health's Kid Captain last weekend. The shoot was a breeze as we set up production in the middle of the living room and got to hang out with Shelby, the family dog.
Dog, Rose Bowl, and an amazing Kid Captain. What more could you ask for on a video shoot?
Filming in a science laboratory means we have to make sure that the right protective equipment are shown at all times: lab coat, gloves, pants, and eye-wear when appropriate. That said, while the equipment is always top-of-the-line, the most complex substance we use is normally water. Anyone can do science!
What do you get when you sit the best and brightest doctors, who are leading both research and patient care, in front of the camera? Surprisingly, you get a lot of laughs! We recently got to hang out with doctors from UCLA Health Care's prestigious STAR program and they were the coolest, chillest, best-est docs you'll ever meet.
Never a boring day making hospital videos!
We were shooting on location recently when we spotted a merry-go-round and Jon thought, that would make a great dolly shot! You wouldn't know it if you saw the finished high quality video, but this is how our wide tracking shot came together: on a playground child's toy. Being creative means working with small budgets and getting the most out of our shoots. No matter how ridiculous we look.
When you think of a video production shoot, you think trailers, wardrobe and makeup artists, right? Well, the budget for our corporate videos is almost there, but not quite! In order to make the best video for the leanest budget, we provide light makeup on set but skip the trailer and wardrobe. Our talents always end up looking great on camera, and we skip all the temper tantrums associated with big productions.
Recently we came across the most difficult question that all film crews face when it comes to video production: do we ask someone to take a picture of the crew, or do we use a selfie stick? What are the pros and cons of such a decision on the quality and cost-effectiveness of the final video product? None. Absolutely zero. It's just a crew picture.
We went with the selfie stick. First crew selfie!
Being a Los Angeles based production company, we get to travel all over great LA for our shoots. We got to hang out in South Los Angeles recently for a community video and saw a different side that we never get to see. We went INTO Compton!
Not pictured: the amazing tacos we had for lunch. Who knew there was such an amazing tacos joint in the heart of South Central?
We had the most amazing time shooting UCLA's newest Kid Captain Luc Bodden this week in Agoura Hills and ... wait for it ... the Rose Bowl! That's right, we were on the sidelines for the UCLA vs. UVA football game! Meeting these little heroes and making videos for young patients is one of our favorite projects.
Before the game we met up with Luc and his buddies in Agoura Hills.
Video production is a breeze when you have total pros in front of the camera!
With our rich journalism background, on-camera interviews is our wheelhouse. Seriously, we can get a good interview out of a rock. We love talking to people, and we learn something new every time. We were able to utilize the beautiful quad space at the UCLA Engineering school for this shoot. Making interview videos can be especially fun when you're outside.
Even our video production equipment likes a nice day in the sun.
We usually work with staffers on our videos, people from the clinics and offices, but every now and then the pros get brought out. We got to work with actors in this shoot, and production was a real treat.
Our crew and talent worked our tails off until the midnight hour at Stanford Health Care's new Cancer Center. If you're not willing to pull an all-nighter, get out of the kitchen!
Capturing clean, accurate sound in live video production is a tougher task than one would imagine. When filming presentations or covering keynote events, we always enroll an audio technician to make sure every note is crisp and clear. We scope out the space, determine who has to wear a mic, whether we can tap into the AV system, and then cover the rest with our boom mic. It's not an easy job, but delivering top quality sound is critical for our videos.
Recently we had the honor of filming inside a lab that produces prosthetic parts for our wounded veterans as part of UCLA's Operation Mend program. The research and production were absolutely incredible, and we're thankful for all the doctors putting our fearless vets back together.
We are in the process of filming UCLA Hospital's new Patient Experience video for all employees of the health system! Designed to train and boost staff morale, the UCLA CICARE model is hugely successful in impacting patient care--and goes well with filming! Our favorite actors today were Nino and Nina, who only communicates in hugs and kisses since she doesn't speak English. They are in their 90s and are celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary soon.
Alas, with all good things, the shoot came to an end. That's a wrap!
We are in beautiful Palo Alto this week with the PAMF administrative team for a staff inspirational video. We've been to a few clinics to capture the Lean teams at work on improving processes for better patient care. What an inspiration!
